So, as the hunt for a steady line artist continues I am looking at alternatives.
It's strange how so many people advertise comic art comissions and when you approach them with an offer for a big project with guaranteed comissions over a long period of time, they decline only wanting to do character sketches.
Breaking it down by pages, I would think 24 comissions are better than 1. It just confuses me to no ends. I am sure it is because most sketch artists are in school or have day jobs and can't commit to large projects. In those cases I totally understand.
SO...on to alternatives.
I have been blowing the dust off of photoshop and trying to get back into the groove of photo manipulation. I used to be decent at it, so I believe it may be a good alternative to traditional lined art graphic novels.
This way I can create props and costumes, take stock photos of the actor in all kinds of positions in a day, and have a good library of poses for that character.
This will also let me enjoy the fun of hunting down locations for scenery shots. I just need to invest in a better camera.
I actually had this idea a few years back, but there was a lot of controversy that it was "cheating" when making graphic novels. I hope now such an idea will be more accepted as even with traditional line art, the majority of comics / graphic novels now are created digitally. Hell, I know some artists with published work never touch a penicl and piece of paper, everything is done digitally.
Would like to know thoughts on using manipulated photos for the artwork in comic books and graphic novels.
While you think, here are some of my old photomanipulations from years ago:
